Gravel Pit Public Hearing

"A petition has been filed for a Conditional User Permit in an A-1 Agricultural District as applied to property in a location within Sections 21 and 22 of Fairview Twp (78-39). The site is in the general vicinity of 311 Hwy 59. The petition asks that the property currently zoned as an A-1 Agricultural District be granted a Special Use Permit to allow construction and operation of a Sand and Gravel Extraction, Processing and Sales operation.

A public hearing will be held by the Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustment on Monday, June 29th at 9:00AM in the Shelby County Board of Supervisors Meeting Room, Lower Level, Shelby County Courthouse, Harlan, Iowa at which time you may appear, if you so desire, either in person or by agent or attorney, or in writing in opposition to or support of the proposed Permit.

The hearing is not limited to those receiving copies of this notice, and if you know of any neighbors or affected property owners who, for any reason, have not received a copy, please inform them of this public hearing."  Tony Buman, Administrator

Regional Water is concerned that a gravel pit that operates this close to our wellfield will drastically deplete the groundwater we use to provide water to our customers.

With everything we have done and the restrictions that have been in place for so long, we believe that this is too much of a risk to the water supply for our customers.
